Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe is a Member of Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and is an Attorney-at-Law by profession. He is the National Democratic Front’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election. He is also a President’s Counsel and a former President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. He holds a PhD from the University of Colombo in Constitutional Law, a PhD from the University of Kelaniya in Buddhist Philosophy, an M.Phil from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, an LL.D (honoris causa) from Commonwealth University, United Kingdom, an LL.B from the University of Colombo, and attended Sri Lanka Law College. Over the course of his political career, Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has served in several ministerial posts, most recently as the Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms before resigning to contest in the 2024 presidential election. He has served on several parliamentary committees throughout his career and is a former member of the Constitutional Council.
